[SOLVED] CD software to USB

Post by Peter Linu »

Hiyall,
I have some hardware dependent software that I'd like to put on a USB stick so I can install it in a Win10 Virtualbox. What program should I use?

what is the software extention? that is what's after the (.) in the file names?
if it's and .iso you will have to use an .iso burner such as mints disk writer or Etcher.
If it's anything else you should be able to copy using the file manager. Make sure the usb stick is formatted to NTFS or Fat32.
Good Luck.

It was late. My apologies. I want to extract the contents of a CD containing an application and put the contents on a USB stick.

Couldn't you just copy the contents of the CD to a folder on your hard drive then move it a USB drive? Or maybe copy directly to the USB. Your file manager should be able to handle that.

Since you mentioned "Virtualbox", I wonder what stops you from reading the software CD directly within the VirtualBox guest for example as in https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=79780 ? They said VirtualBox allows the guest optical drive be mapped to host optical drive directly.

I use Caja in Mint Mate, but I'm sure Nemo would work as well.
