Temporay Black Screen after Login and no Sound

Post by linux26 »

Hello,

I have installed Linux Mint on my Huawei Matebook X pro 2020 last year and have been using it for a few months. Everything ran great sound, graphics etc recognized and drivers correctly installed. I was very happy moving from Windows. Today I try use my laptop and I get this weird black screen with the cursor for about 10-20 seconds after Login, then the Desktop starts normal. A little bit later I realize no sound icon in the panel anymore for turning up the volume. I tried turning up the volume in the sound settings but the control is not movable. I tried timeshifting to a version a few days old but nothing changes. I am a complete noob at Linux and feel very lost I thought Linux Mint was low maintenance, I just used it for studying the day before so just looking at PDF files. In the system reports there is nothing. Here is my system info. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Temporay Black Screen after Login and no Sound

Post by vimes666 »

Maybe you accidentally clicked on remove sound in the sound applet menu?
Try reinstalling it by right-clicking on an empty spot of the panel bar, then click applets, then scroll down to the Sound applet, click on it and then click on the plus button.

Regarding you system details:

Local Storage: total: 476.94 GiB used: 500.84 GiB (105.0%)
I don't understand how you can use more disk space than there is. Maybe someone else can explain this.

Linux Mint 21 versions are based on Ubuntu 22.04. It's not a good idea to install repos for other versions Ubuntu like you did here for 23.04.

Normally, if an issue is related to the operating system then reverting to a Timeshift snapshot prior to the problem happening should fix it. Do you have any earlier snapshots you can try?

I have seen data like that (more than 100%) when someone is using encryption.

For the black screen, i have had the same problem, until i got a new hard drive.
I am pretty sure the black login is due to a slow disk.
As for the no sound, i am unsure.
