How improve interface of Application Manager?

Post by Dan-cer »

Whenever I look for a particular program in the application manager, a window opens where I can click on Install or Remove. Unfortunately, the description is ALWAYS unreadable unless I have extended the window to the bottom. There is far too much space for a program image above it. I have found this unusually poor display for LM standard since the upgrade to 21.3. Before that everything was fine. How can I improve this? Here is a screenshot:

It may have to do with how it interacts with your hardware, paste the complete text output of

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxpmrz
run in the terminal. Wrap it in <code> tags.

No, it's just the default window size.

You don't need to extend the window. You can scroll down. The bad trend of scrollbar auto-hiding is another matter. But one can always disable that in Cinnamon.

Though even with scrollbar autohide disabled, the default scroll bars are too thin and not well-contrasted, in my opinion.

This post allows you to set wider, coloured scrollbars: viewtopic.php?t=406961

Yes there is a way to change the layout a bit (do this at your own risk, the universe may collapse or even your pc).

1. Edit mintinstall.py

Code: Select all

xed admin:///usr/lib/linuxmint/mintinstall/mintinstall.py
Search for the number 351 and change it to 251. (you should find it twice)
Save the file.

2. Edit mintinstall.glade

Code: Select all

xed admin:///usr/share/linuxmint/mintinstall/mintinstall.glade
Search for the number 351 and change it to 251.
Save the file.

Restart the application manager.

The illustration of the package should now take a bit less room, making the description more visible.

Yesterday the internet was down, so I could only post the desired output now:
