Mint doesnt find Laptops Trackpad

Post by tjelle »

Heyyy, new to linux!
Very strange. Trackpad works in Windows, but doesnt get recognized by mint, tried both the ubuntu and debian based versions, went through every fix i could find in the forums but nothings worked.
Hopped into windows again, Made sure bios was up to date and looked what kind of trackpad i have while at it.
ELAN Trackpad
HID over I2C
xinput doesnt show it at all
tried using ubuntu, same problem, doesnt get shown in xinput either. in mint i atleast see the cursor in the middle of the screen, in ubuntu i dont even see that

A little update!
in the live os from a usb drive it works perfectly fine and the trackpad gets recognized as ELAN071A:00 04F3:30FD Touchpad by xinput

Welcome to the forum, tjelle.

You mentioned several different operating systems you tried so which "live os" worked from the usb?

In cases like this, we would try a re-install and then run the updates one at a time (or in small groups) to narrow down which one might be the issue. As a first try, you could see if booting into an older kernel might work.

Welcome from me too!

I guess you've tried sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe -a psmouse? .. I need to do this sometimes on my Thinkpad to get the pointer to respond again; when it occurs it's normally after the first sleep following a reboot.

Might be worth a try.
