Desktop icons are gone... but apps are still functioning...

Hi,

My desktop suddenly got rid of all my desktop icons. However, when I go to file browser, I can select and use them (it says that they are in my desktop but they don't appear). I selected and used FireFox via the taskbar to write this.

Is there some way I can restore the icons using the terminal?

Remove ~/.config/caja/desktop-metadata (after backup) then relogin. See if that helps?

I did just that by doing cp -r ~/.config/caja/desktop-metadata ~/backup_desktop_metadata


It has unfortunately not worked out. Any other tips I could use?

Maybe you should start Display and push "Reset to Defaults".

/Control center/Look and Feel/Desktop Settings
Which icons are enabled?
Also make sure you are looking at the correct desktop workspace
