Thunderbird [Solved, OP Can't hear straight]
I watched a video last night on the switched to Linux channel, and he reported that Thunderbird is going to do away with .deb packages in favor of snaps. Is this going to be a nail in the coffin of Thunderbird?

Re: Thunderbird
No. If you don't fancy snaps (like I), I'm sure some reliable semi-official PPA will pop up that'll provide Thunderbird in the traditional way. But personally, I fully switched to Gmail about a decade ago....
By the way: it's not (the devs of) Thunderbird that's considering a switch, but (the devs of) Ubuntu:

Re: Thunderbird
Hello, TaterChap.
The difference is relevant, because snap packages are Ubuntu specific.
Why should the Thunderbird development team focus on the only package format, which is Ubuntu specific thus ignoring all the other Linux distributions?
By the way, so far they have published the Linux edition of their application as .tar.bz2 archives, never as .deb packages.
The Debian developers and the Ubuntu developers created the .deb installation packages of Thunderbird for their distributions so far.

As I see now, Pjotr has amended his post by adding a relevant piece of information, which confirms what I had suspected.
All your readers would be delighted if you could be bothered to provide the link to this video.
Who is he? More important, did this guy really tell that the Thunderbird developers were going to provide their application as a snap package only? Or did this guy tell that Ubuntu were going to provide Thunderbird to their users as a snap package only?

Re: Thunderbird
Yep, I don't want anything to do with snaps. I heard they update automatically. If that's the case I should just stay on Windows.
I have almost rid myself of google. I still have to maintain one email for my android phone. The rest got switched to myemail@mybusiness.com. It's a little more challenging when I change hosting companies, but at least they are not hosted by a company that's been caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

TaterChip.
Pjotr has added a link to an article to his post, https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2024/02/thu ... untu-24-04, which strongly suggests that the Thunderbird developers are not the ones who favour .snap packages over .deb packages. It is the Ubuntu makers.

I thought I heard it was Thunderbird. I was listening to the video while getting some work done. IF I had a case of wrongthink I'll admit it. Figured I'd post here to get others opinions.Who is he?
