Some comparison of Ubuntu server x86-64-v3 and LM 21.1

Post by t42 »

Here is a total score of Geekbench 6 benchmarks of Ubuntu x86-64-v3, OpenSUZE Tumbleweed and Linux Mint 21.1, all systems are installed on the same my fairly random hardware, AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6 Cores, 12 Threads and X570 motherboard. Tests performed: File Compression, Navigation, HTML5 Browser, PDF Renderer, Photo Library, Clang, Text Processing, Asset Compression, Object Detection, Background Blur, Horizon Detection, Object Remover, HDR, Photo Filter, Ray Tracer, Structure from Motion.

Code: Select all

                    | Single-Core Score | Multi-Core Score | Note |
--------------------+-------------------+------------------+------------
openSUSE Tumbleweed | 1959 | 8514 | kernel 6.6 |
Ubuntu Server 23.04 | 1927 | 8459 | kernel 6.2 |
Linux Mint 21.1 | 1869 | 8362 | kernel 6.2 |
Cryptsetup benchmarks on the same hardware:

Code: Select all

Encryption | Ubuntu Server 23.04 | Linux Mint 21.1 |
-------------+-----------------+----------------+-----
aes-xts 256b | 4819.8 MiB/s | 3175.6 MiB/s |
aes-xts 512b | 4022.2 MiB/s | 2832.7 MiB/s |

Decryption | Ubuntu Server 23.04 | Linux Mint 21.1 |
-------------+-----------------+----------------+-----
aes-xts 256b | 4837.3 MiB/s | 3186.8 MiB/s |
aes-xts 512b | 3997.7 MiB/s | 2881.8 MiB/s |
I do not know with which flags current Tumbleweed packages are compiled but the results are consistently better than Ubuntu Server 23.04 v3. I don't think it is because of kernel 6.6 vs 6.2.
And Ubuntu Server 23.04 v3 results are consistently better than Linux Mint 21.1 -- though nothing drastic.
