Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
I am using xfce 21.2 for a Dell Latitude 3380 laptop.
Whenever I use the suspend mode, there's a 5 second delay when I press the power button that I swatch for suspend mode. The problem is almost the same when I close the lid, but when I open the lid back up, it shows what I last have and than goes on suspend mode.
However, when I use the systemctl suspend, it instantly goes to suspend mode without any delay.
I would like to apologize for any confusion as I am new towards Linux, and I have no idea how to do use linux in a proper sense, I just want to make my laptop to go instantly to suspend without delay.

Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
This output indicates you have not yet run the updates in Update Manager. The kernel and other listed packages are not showing the latest versions. Please update and see if that helps with this issue.

Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
How did you get from the 5.15 kernel to the 6.5 kernel? That is not part of a standard update.
Did you originally do a fresh install of LM21.2 Xfce?
There were changes in the power-management of latest version of Xfce, but I will have to check to see if any of them affected the ability to suspend.

Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
Both of those options are hardware-related options. Sometimes there are settings in BIOS/UEFI related to what to do when closing the lid or pressing the power button. Check to see if there are any which might be a factor in this situation.0182g03 wrote: ⤴Sun Dec 17, 2023 5:43 pmWhenever I use the suspend mode, there's a 5 second delay when I press the power button that I swatch for suspend mode. Do you mean you are running a command in terminal? Have you tried using the desktop GUI to suspend?
I went through the xfce-power-manager bug reports and didn't find anything which sounded similar to what you have described.

Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
I will try and see if there is anything related to that in the BIOS/UEFI settings. I will do my best to update it as soon as possible
The desktop GUI seems to work properly, as it was instant when I click on suspend mode.
Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
I don't think there is an option for what closing the lid and the power button do when pressed in the UEFI settings on the laptop, as far as I can find on the UEFI settings.
Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
Okay.
I do not know all the options in Xfce, but I don't know why the desktop GUI would work and the other two options would have a delay.
Maybe someone else with Xfce will have experienced this issue and can help.

Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
I am not sure if this is important, but a couple of days ago, I installed Linux Ubuntu before switching to Linux Mint, but there was no delay when putting on suspend mode when closing the lid or pressing the physical power button, I am unsure why it seems to be on Linux Mint.
Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
To be honest, this is the first time I have ever heard anyone describe this type of issue. I do not know why it might happen.0182g03 wrote: ⤴Tue Dec 19, 2023 7:25 pmI am not sure if this is important, but a couple of days ago, I installed Linux Ubuntu before switching to Linux Mint, but there was no delay when putting on suspend mode when closing the lid or pressing the physical power button, I am unsure why it seems to be on Linux Mint.

Re: Laptop Suspend Delay Problem
Hey. I have the same situation on my Lenovo Chromebook with Linux Mint 21. I just tried it out and for me too the command works instantly while the laptop lid method has delays. I'll be experimenting a bit in the next days and post solutions here.
