There's all kinds of examples why these instructions are inaccurate and misleading.JoeFootball wrote: ⤴Mon Feb 15, 2021 3:32 pmScreenshot_2021-02-15.jpgBTCSMS wrote: February 2021: I don't see ANY "Preparation" section.

1. The "preparation" section doesn't appear until you click the green version box.
If you only click the link, you keep going in circles.
2. I can't find my "home" directory. It assumes I know where this is.
3. "Download the following files (right-click -> Save As...) and move them into the "ISO" directory." Move them or save them? Two different terms. Right clicking only gives the option "Save IMAGE as", not "Save as". You have to assume a user knows NOTHING about computers in order to give accurate instructions. I know. I was in the military. They assume you are a complete idiot.
In computers, I am. So, when I see instruction loops and putting the cart before the horse and miswordings, I call it out.
It tells me to create an "ISO file" but then calls it a directory.

Re: How to verify the ISO image on Windows
To be fair, that guide in unnecessarily verbose, IMHO.
There's no shortage of YouTube videos that show the install process for Linux Mint. I'd recommend checking out more than one, then go with the guide that's easiest to follow.

Re: How to verify the ISO image on Windows
You think other people on Windows don't need these detailed and practical instructionы, reading time 1 min 15 sec?
Is it better to send folks to some unspecified youtube videos with playing time from 4 to 10 minutes?
This post was read 277903 times - there should be several dissatisfied people among them.

this happened to me. same exact thing. forgot to install GnupG. i feel your namesake now, Beaver. everything else took 2 minutes. This is a good first brainteaser for me. Re: How to authenticate the ISO image on Windows
Hey all. I'm not having fun. Hoping one of ya smart folks can assist with the authentication portion as i've been at for coming up on 6 hours and refuse to give up as i've wasted this much time lol. Sums checked out fine however I keep getting the "gpg is not recognized as a batch blah blah". Right clicked to save, haven't modded files. After a few hours I restarted and moved the ISO folder from my D: drive to the C: Home directory to no avail. Thought maybe I could redirect the filepath to manually point it to the right directory with a little %path% action. Nadda. So here I am posting on a forum which I can't even memba the last time I had to throw in the towel like this but alas, here I be. Any help is HIGHLY appreciated, a smile and a handshake to anyone with some direction. Cheers, also rainbows. p.s I scoured for other places to post and this was one of two I found and this one seems more active so forgive me. I'm up to idf even know where. Meeeh. (For speeds sake it's not any of the downloaded x32 while having x64 type shiz. Okay i'm done. Feel a little better actually lmao.

Re: How to verify the ISO image on Windows
Thanks for the very detailled discription!
By now I've downloaded "linuxmint-20.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso"-files from about 6 or 7 different Mirrors. In the verification-process I (nearly everytime) get to the same point:
Everything works out so far until the resulting alphanumeric code (the "hash") of my downloaded 64bit.iso-file in the comand window is not the same as the 64bit.iso-hash in the SHA256.txt-file, BUT(!!!) it's the same hash as the linuxmint-20.1-cinnamon-64bit-edge.iso-hash in the SHA256-file! I'm completely new to Linux-Using, well, creating my first bootable pendrive and have no idea.
Is it alright as it is? Can I use the file? (...my head is smoking... )
Greets and cheers and thanks in advance

...I've found my mistake!! So no worries! Thanks
Re: How to verify the ISO image on Windows
Hi Guys, I'm new to Linux and just want to know, where I can find the third .iso file I need to start the live-version.
I'm still using Win7 and want to install Linux Mint Mate on the second partition of my PC.
I already downloaded the LMM Version I need and want to run on my Laptop.
In the verification guide there is
"Preparation
1. Create a directory called "ISO" in your home directory.
2. Move the ISO image you downloaded in this directory.
3. Download the following files (right-click -> Save As...) and move them into the "ISO" directory.
File Description
sha256sum.txt Contains the SHA256 sums to check the integrity of the ISO images.
sha256sum.txt.gpg Signed by the Linux Mint team to check the authenticity of the sha256sum.txt file.
Your ~/ISO directory should now contain 3 files: Your ISO image, the sha256sum.txt file and the sha256sum.txt.gpg file.
Where can I find this third ISO Image?
I'm looking forward to your answer.
Gerry

alright, thank you for the info, I finally found it and was able to start the Windows PowerShell.JoeFootball wrote: ⤴Fri May 07, 2021 10:37 amWhere did you download it to? That's where the ISO file is, which you need to move.Gerry wrote: I already downloaded the LMM Version I need ...
Unfortunately as the first command worked pretty fine on that PowerShall the next step did not at all. Every time I wanted to know, if the varification code is the same in the sha256sum.txt file to compare it shows me that the parameter format is incorrect:
As I use the German version it's written in German, so I hope someone can still read it and give me an adivce!
Thank's!

Re: How to verify the ISO image on Windows
Hi Gerry, you might be better off posting in the German language section of the forums. You will also get better visibility there than here, at the end of a very long tutorial thread.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!
Re: How to verify the ISO image on Windows
Hy Meom, thank's for your reply and hint but I finally found the right command which is "gc (get-content)" instead of "find" and now I can continue.

Hi all! Hope you are doing well.
I've been trying to very the ISO hash with Windows 10 for the "linuxmint-20.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso" following the steps of this thread viewtopic.php?f=42&t=291093.
Well, my luck or my skills are not working probably. Because none of the mirrors that I have used can reach to the same HASH as provided in the .txt. I have yet to download any other version to see if it is happening the same.
Here are all the mirror sites tried so far, also tried some randomly but no luck:
