Opening new thread as required by Forum Admin.

First, xrdp alone doesn't work. We must add packages vnc4server and tightvncserver because xrdp only recommends them but doesn't depend on them.
Using sesman-Xvnc module, I get "Do you want to restart Cinnamon? Cinnamon just crashed. You are currently running in Fallback mode". This is the only module which works somehow, although not with Cinnamon as we'd wanted.
Rdp-any gives a blank screen. Using freerdp-any module, I get "error loading libxrdpfreerdp1.so". Using sesman-X11rdp I get connected and then immediately disconnected.
There is some brief tutorial: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1188 and a detailed video which basically shows how to use XFCE to RDP to Mint, because Cinnamon doesn't work properly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKKUEHLDaAc.

Actually, there are also problems with XFCE which normally works in remote session, but Mint version is losing the customizations: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 4&p=815444. That is reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1348091.

Mint includes the same version of xrdp like Ubuntu, 0.6.0, while the current version is 0.9.0 from https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp. There is also an instruction on how to install it at http://c-nergy.be/blog/?p=4168 but they may be old. I installed it myself from git. I couldn't have xrdp work what how should and I reported at https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/issues/155. But it's an old problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/846407.

X2GO's Desktop Environment Compatibility shows it doesn't support Cinnamon either, although other mangers work, except new Unity: http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:de-compat

Please comment. I suggest this thread be for NEW xrdp versions (it's 0.9.0 now) and that http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=118495 remains for OLD xrdp versions (0.6.0 in Mint 17).

I tried X11rdp-o-matic.sh in Mint 17 Cinnamon. First time packages were compiled but not installed, but second time they installed.
XFCE and LXDE fork fine and RDPsesconfig.sh can choose between them. Gnome Classic and MATE don't (just a blank screen).

I also tried X11rdp-o-matic.sh --justdoit in fresh Mint 17 XFCE. Went fine and XRDP works. But, there is a known problem "Mint17 XFCE + XRDP trashes desktop settings".

In the end, I'd say that installation goes fine (X11rdp-o-matic.sh), and we can use RDP, but only for default XFCE and LXDE and not for Mint Cinnamon and XFCE. RDPsesconfig.sh doesn't help here.
But, all that with xrdp 0.9.0 doesn't change the basic problem we have with xrdp 0.6.0 from the repository: Mint's Cinnamon and XFCE just don't work.

Besides this I would also like to mention this other issue, that I don't know if it is related to the Cinnamon malfunction: when I open a terminal window inside the fallback mode, I can input correctly all characters except for 's', that instead shows the Applications panel, and 'd', that instead minimizes all windows on the desktop.

I just mention here that I have installed Linux Mint 17 Mate in another pc, and remote sessions are working correctly, BUT only with vnc4server installed. If I try with tightvncserver, the remote desktop session crashes few seconds after the login.

Just a heads up - cinammon/mint 17 works fine with the latest nomachine, just tried it.

I have been using SSH and "Desktop Sharing" (aka "Vino") and it is too slow and clunky. Plus, I want a new desktop session, not just the already logged-on session, as Vino provides. Thanks, in advance, to any assistance you may be able to provide.

NoMachine is just desktop sharing, not RDP. I have it working in Ubuntu 14.10 with latest NoMachine, but it doesn't work now in Mint Cinnamon, connection is established but the screen is black. I can't remember whether it used to work. Installation is easy, it needs to be downloaded from their web page and installed to both client and server.
All things considered, I'd recommend X2GO. With PyHoca it's rather nice. Still, I really hope we'll get real RDP (from Windows) working in Linux.
