I'm proud to announce the unofficial LMDE KDE live DVD: UP4 / 201208.
Changes
A lot of bugs were resolved.
Plymouth (introduced new bugs...which were resolved...most of them).
Themes for Plymouth and Ksplash were (re)created and I hope you like them.
To keep the unofficial LMDE KDE as close as possible to Linux Mint Maya, Kid3, Inkscape, SoundKonverter and Kuser were removed.
Instead of Kuser, userconfig from the Maya repositories is used.
Other Mint Maya packages were upgraded.
For all those Nvidia users: sgfxi has been installed by default.
Install Nvidia drivers: ALT+CTRL+F1, login as root, type sgfxi and sit back.
I don't have an ATI system, so I couldn't test that.
If you have an ATI system, please post the steps taken and the results in this thread.
All tests were done according to Mint standards: http://community.linuxmint.com/iso
If you notice any problems or have ideas to improve the unofficial LMDE KDE, please leave a message or mail me:

Known problems
Live Boot:
Warning: Creating compatibility simlink from /etc/mtab to /proc/mounts
Info: according to mtab, tmpfs is already mounted on /run/lock
Info: according to mtab, tmpfs is already mounted on /run/shm
Warning: mount point filesystem.squashfs does not exist skipping mount
Warning: fast boot enabled so skipping file system check
Error: startpar service returned failure live-boot
Live Shutdown:
Error: unmounting temporary filesystems umount /var/run device is busy
Error: umount /live device is busy
Live environment:
mintupdate not starting in live, but does when installed.
Live VLC
VLC doesn't work in live mode. It runs fine once the system is installed. If you need to run VLC from the live media itself, you can use the following workaround: "sudo ln -s / /filesystem.squashfs"
Live login and password
For the username, type "mint"
For the password, if asked, just press Enter.

Missing packages
Amarok doesn't play
Code: Select all
apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
Bug list
GLib-WARNING
I can't seem to get rid of the glib warning:
- GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
I suspect it's a bug that is said to be resolved in the previous version of Plymouth.
Boot still continues without a problem, so I'm not putting too much effort into this one.

Startpar failure on shut down (Live)
Also a Plymouth related issue, this also doesn't do a thing either and the system shuts down normally.
You won't even see it if you don't hit the escape key.
- startpar: services(s) returned failure: live-installer failed
So, what now?
I'm trying to bring the unofficial LMDE KDE under the attention of the Mint team, but so far no luck. If you think that this is "the best thing since sliced bread", just spread the word (and mail the Mint team members).
As soon as UP5 hits the shelves, I will build a KDE version soon after (and hopefully I'll be able to leave out the "unofficial" from the title).
