Thunderbird no longer receiving Emails

There was a recent up date to Thunderbird.

After rebooting my computer, I am no longer receiving emails.
When I select "Get New Messaages for" Plus "current account" then it does nothing.
The little "Done" message in the lower left corner never changes.

Same results with other selections.

Worse yet, I am having to use my silly smart-ass phone to check my email.

I had a similar issue for a little while. It resolved itself with the next update of Thunderbird. Until that happened, I switched over to Betterbird, which is a fork of Thunderbird. Basically the same application with minor tweaks and a different icon. It worked fine, but I went back to Thunderbird when I found it had healed itself.

Right click on the top bar and select 'customize', then drag in the 'Get Messages' and see if that works.

Also go to Account Settings, select one of the accounts and build a new one like it. Delete the old one when finished, then try to retrieve messages. Be certain to build the Outgoing SMTP information also. When retrieving, it should prompt you for the account password.

The simple thing though would be to do a restore if you have a Timeshift backup.

Well plan "A" and "B" did not work.

Plan "C" (Timeshift) did. I am now back to version 115.8.1 (64 bit).

I did a new Timeshift back up (manual).
Refreshed the update manager.
UNCHECKED the Thuderbird update.
Installed all the other updates.
Rebooted.

Things appear to be working normally.
I will have to avoid Thuderbird updates for a while ...

The bug should be reported to mozilla / thunderbird. However, I can't give the link for it.
Another approach is to try a fresh profile and look whether the issue is still there.
But I agree that your solution would be my favorite too.
How you get better results when searching for yourself.

I use Thunderbird 115.9.0 from Mozilla team stable PPA without any problem.

My experience has been that often where Tbird gets hosed up is in the prefs.js file. This is especially true it seems when you have to keep entering passwords for the mail account. I usually keep a copy of the file elsewhere once I have the accounts and folders set up, just for reference.

My last worry free version of Tbird was 101, as I recall. Everything since then seems to be problematic for me.

I'm still using TB 102.15.1 and it works great. I just decided this morning to do the update next week. Now I have decided to wait another month :wink:

I think that 102 was pretty good actually. For certain, I had issues after that release, mostly TB forgetting passwords. Every account has an id number and a server number, those get hosed up and sometimes you can edit the file and fix it. Sometimes the SMTP server stuff is corrupted, however sometimes the pw dbase is hosed and you have to rebuild each account and delete the old accounts. Even after rebuilding, I find that I usually have to enter the pw for each account on the next two mail retrieval attempts.

Every time it has happened, it has been after an update to Tbird.

Hi,

I think that the versions from the PPA and the repos are probably identical. However, the PPA versions are released several days before the repos ones.

In Thunderbird release notes, you can see that, for each release, there are security fixes: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/ ... rbird115.9.

Here are the ones fixed in Thunderbird 115.9.0: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/ ... rbird115.9
(seven vulnerabilities classifies as "high" and four classified as "moderate").

That's why I prefer to update Thunderbird as soon as possible.

And I close any app before it is updated.

I followed SMG advice and closed Thunderbird down, installed the update and all is working fine.
