30 Years of Linux, New to Mint

Post by Kanuck »

I've lost count of the number of years.. but there have been a lot. Using Unix and Linux through the very early nineties, - experiencing the magic of tcsh, trn, elm, ytalk, xtalk, everything via the command line, - before the Internet became ubiquitous. It's been quite the journey. Redhat, Mandrake, SuSE, Ubuntu, Debian and more recently raw Arch.

This is my first time using Mint after deciding to come off the "bleeding edge" that has been Arch and Arch-based distros. Old enough now that I just want something that's, quite frankly, stable and dependable. After 48 hours of Mint, all I can is, wow, this is actually really, really good. I love the position on long term support, and more so not jumping into the messy situation that is Wayland too soon. That considered approach is a breath of fresh air, and the reason why I think I'll be sticking with the Cinnamon release, which is a joy to use.

Congrats and well done on a phenomenally well-rounded and smooth release, the polish really shows!

A warm welcome from me too!
Maybe I haven't tried so many different distros yet, but I've been using Mint for about 5 years now and I'm very happy about it.

That's the same conclusion I came to a couple of years ago. I feel it fits me like a favourite glove. Welcome to the forum.
