Cinnamon Random Desktop Background

Post by vegetvs »

Hi,

I've just installed Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon, after trying out Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce. I know Cinnamon is supposed to have more "bells and whistles" than Xfce, but I'm now missing an option available from the Xfce version, which is to have a random desktop background rotated every now and then. Is it possible to get this same feature on Cinnamon?

Thanks in advance.

Right-click on Desktop and choose to change background, then under the setting tab there is
a slideshow option.

It's time to explore Applets!

Navigate to System Settings > Preferences > Applets and click on it.

There are two tabs at the top "Manage" and "Download". Under the managed tab there are some pre-installed applets which you can configure. And in the Download tab there are more applets you can download and install. Once downloaded they will appear in the Managed tab ready for you to configure.

My favourite Applet is Bing Desktop Wallpaper by Starcross. Once activated you get the Bing Wallpaper of the day as your daily desktop. You might find other wallpaper applets that meet your needs. Suggest you only have 1 activated.

Great tip, indeed. I used to install Bing Wallpaper first thing after a fresh macOS/Windows install. Nice to see someone added the support for that here. Is it only available for Cinnamon or does it work on Xfce, too? (I'm still not 100% settled with my desktop environment). Thanks!

Never tried in Xfce, but someone else has!!!
See this

Watch it all if you must, but if you go to 5.59 minutes you will see the method for installing on Xfce - just need to download something and run a python script.

I think this says the same thing
