Panel and Menu don't align

Post by eugenaciu »

Hello,
I’m using LMDE6 with Cinnamon, Adwaita theme.
Because I like Plank, I decided to move the Panel to the left side of the screen and to set it to “Auto hide panel”.
Now, if I need to open another application, I’m pressing the special(Windows) key on my keyboard. What I notice is that the Panel is displayed over the menu, instead of next to it:

If I quickly press the windows key again, the Panel and Menu align and are displayed correctly.

I don’t know if this is because of my setup or a potential bug. I can live with it, but if it can be fixed without a lot of effort, maybe it will be done.
Thanks!

This is a known bug yeah, it was reported a few times. Not sure when it will be fixed.
It happens when the menu is on top or bottom too.

Here it's supposed to be fixed in Cinnamon 5.8.4 but I still have the bug in Cinnamon 5.8.4.

Please confirm panel is or not hidden when pressing Menu key first time.

If it happens only when panel is hidden the first time you press Menu key or in any case you can try to disable Force panel to be visible when opening Menu on Applets>Menu> click on gears icon on the left (configure).

In such case pressing Menu key normal behaviour will be
-Menu aligned to screen border with no panel at all even on full screen mode if panel is hidden or

-Menu aligned to panel if it is not hidden.
Also you can try Cinnamenu applet (it does not have such feature) in the place of Menu applet.

The "Force the panel..." option is enabled.
It looks like the Menu is somehow capturing all the clicks. When I'm in the initial situation, I cannot even press another button on the Panel.

Try disabling it. Then Menu will display aligned to panel if panel is not hidden avoiding such problems.

Menu will be displayed aligned to screen border if panel is hidden, as you can not use any applet on panel you don't loose anything. :D

It is a pain there is no keyboard shortcut (at least I don't know if it exists) to display panel when it is hidden by default. If you need to move pointer to screen border then you can click on menu...

I'm happy to report that after upgrading to Cinnamon 6.0.4, the issue is gone.
Congratulations to all involved!
