Mint 8 doesn't use an xorg.conf by default, but it will use the info in one if you create it :)

So how do I setup my linuxmint to use the nvidia driver and how do I know if it is using it now? Compiz runs, but there is no nvidia splash screen and when I start Nvidia control center it "claims" that "nvidia" is not loaded by my xorg.conf and to edit it. (This is true, but no video driver is loaded by xorg.conf as far as I can tell. My screen alignment is also off a little.)

What lines do I need to add to tell it to use "nvidia" and "glx?"

Thanks.

In terminal check
  • lsmod |grep nvidia
    inxi -G
    --graphics card
  • alt F2
    gksu nvidia-settings
    --set your resolution

You can try running Xorg -configure to create an xorg.conf. Once I did that I was able to get the nvidia drivers working.

I have the same problem. I would like to ask what lines do I need to add to tell it to use ATI Radeon X600 card.
