Synching Ipod

Post by zbiggs »

I just put linux (mint 15 cinnamon) on my laptop for the first time 3 days ago, and I tried syncing my ipod nano 7G with Banshee. I was able to take music off the ipod and save it onto my laptop, but if I try to put new music on the Ipod it put's it on but it doesn't show up on the ipod (can't play but takes up the space :p ) I'm wondering if there is support for ipod nano 7G on linux? (I tried searching but it doesn't let me search "ipod" "nano" or "7g" because they are all less than 5 characters so sorry if this is already posted).

As for linux, so far i'm really enjoying it, a new feel i've used the apple OS, windows xp/7, this is a nice new feel, slowly getting used to the terminal also :D, any tips for noob is greatly appreciated.

I am a KDE user and so use Amarok to manage my iPod and it works quite fine. Since Mint is based on Ubuntu, ubuntu forums also will help you in solving the issue.

Regarding forum search on words with fewer characters -
Below are links of custom search engines that help in searching linux related topics. You could search here and even filter for Mint.

The syncing with Banshee works for only older ipod nano's (before 6G I believe) just tried it with my old 2G nano and it works, but as for my 7G no luck, put's the song on and takes up space, but it doesn't show up in it's music :(.

Thanks for those custom google search's definitely will bookmark those, thanks :D

Hi,
the problem is the same here when trying to send music with Banshee to an Ipod Nano 3d generation from 2007: transfer doesn't happen.
With Rhythmbox it's worst, trying to transfer music to the ipod causes a crash.
GTKPod says things like "échec du transfert" or "aucun fichier de ce type"...
Any idea?

I was thinking of buying an ipod nano 7g - but what I have read on the net has really put me off!

There is a guy here trying to get linux working with his nano 6g (which seems to have the same problem - banshee cannot update the database hashes properly):

http://blog.venthur.de/index.php/2013/01/shiny-new-ipod-nano-6g-fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu/#comments

Apparently there is a hack to get it working:
1. Install libgpod4_0.8.2 and libgpod-common_0.8.2 from http://franck78.ath.cx/

2. Downloaded libhashab.so and in root mode place it in /usr/lib/libgpod and put all permisions to read and write.

3. Enjoy :)
though it will require you trusting some binary blob from a random guy on the internet ... (I thought I was past all this after ditching windows!).

Hope this helps, and let me know how you get on if you try it.
