Dropbox not working

Dropbox was working, but since I did my last sytem update it stopped working. I tried to uninstall and reinstall dropbox, and it doesn't do anything. It says it has installed it, and doesn't give any error message, but does not create a dropbox folder or do anything as far as I can tell.

I then went to Drop site and tried to install it from there and someone suggested when I asked about this earlier. I tried to install the Ubuntu (.deb) 32 bnit version. Is that correct? I got an error message saying:
Error, failed to install all dependencies.

please go to a terminal and type the following commands one at a time.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get purge dropbox
sudo apt-get install nautilus-dropbox

let us know how that goes for you.

if you get any error messages please post them here .

I have pasted the whole process below. I shows no errors and says dropbox is insatlled. However when I click on the dropbox icon under Menu/applications nothing happens. I am going to reboot the system and see if that helps.

After that I tried again

according to that first command dropbox is running.
Ok this is a little perplexing.
do you have a dropbox folder in your home folder?
if so rename it Dropbox.bak
go to menu >system tools > system monitor > click on the processes tab
then find dropbox in the list right click and click end process.

Then go to the terminal and retype

dropbox start -i

see if Dropbox creates a new folder and populates it?
if it does it's working. and you should be able to place a file in the Dropbox folder and have it uploaded to Dropbox.

I'd like to add something here, cause I had same problem, but tried to install/uninstall caja-dropbox instead of nautilus-dropbox. Commands like "dropbox" or "man dropbox" had no effect despite those two packages being installed.

But, this fixed my problem

sudo aptitude purge caja-dropbox
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install dropbox caja-dropbox nautilus-dropbox
sudo dropbox update

Now dropbox starts correctly.

Hi I am new to Linux and looking to swap over with the death of XP. To try it out, I have installed Olivia via Mint4win. I've tried downloading Dropbox but all it does is show the icon by the date saying it is "connecting" but nothing happens. I don't have any dropbox folder in my home. I have followed the instructions in this thread with no error messages appearing but obviously can't rename my folder in home because I don't have one.

Any help really appreciated. It would be a decider if I can't get dropbox.

Running dropbox in nemo, recently finding that the app is not syncing.

here is the command to test dropbox after purging and reinstalling, still not working.
