mintMenu 5.x and Fedora support?

Post by valent »

Hi guys,
does new mintMenu 5.x supports Fedora out of the box?

I'm maintainer of Fusion Linux (http://fusionlinux.org/) - Fedora Remix that uses mintMenu and has Mint as one of main inspirations.

I tried running new mintMenu 5.1.6 but get this error:

$ mintmenu

Reverting back to mintMenu 4.9.9 I get mintMenu running without issues.

Thank you in advance.

Can't help you with Fedora, but I've read about a duplicate of this error somewhere here in the forums . . . the member went to /.gconf/Apps and deleted the mintMenu folder, it was re-written and auto-re-configured on reboot.

good luck, richy

edit: Just noticed the "apt" part of the error message . . this may have something to do with the new apt-search-install feature that has been built into the new mintMenu !

Fedora should have apt4rpm or something like that. The errors you are receiving is because mintmenu is looking for apt to install configobj I believe.

There was an effort in making mintMenu 4.x multi-distro compatible, and that is why we included it in Fusion Fedora Remix by default. Has that effort been abandoned so that current and new versions of mintMenu will be Ubuntu/Mint only?

If you guys can please make it as distro independent as possible, and I'll work with Fedora devels for mintMenu to get included in official Fedora repos.

APT indeed has a Fedora version, but it was working very slow at me (much slower than yum or Mint apt)

You can use a 32-bit version on a 64-bit processor. Performance is slightly lower but it runs fine (except on some Macs)
