Great synopsis of the issues with systemd in Linux Journal
The March, 2015, issue of Linux Journal, has a great article on the background of the Unix / Linux init processes and the advent of systemd. Author is Jonas Gorauskas. I highly recommend! I could probably find a link, but don't have time. I'm a digital subscriber to the journal. Read it if you get a chance.

I am of the opinion that, whether you hate it or like it, it pays to understand how freaking systemd works and what it does with your internals. Here's a link by the above author on the subject. I find his writing informative. I still reserve judgment on systemd, but I need to know more about it so I can take "Devuan", et al, seriously or not.
Cheerio.
