Opera Browser is back on Linux

Post by xenopeek »

For those interested, Opera Browser is back on Linux: http://www.webupd8.org/2014/06/opera-fi ... pdate.html

Last version available for Linux was 12, now you can install the latest version (24) again! It's not in any repositories yet for Linux Mint, so from that link you'll have to download it from the Opera website and install it manually. This is a developer release, so expect some issues. For now it is 64-bit only. PepperFlash integration is coming.

All in all, some good news for Opera Browser fans on Linux :)

For those also using Arch Linux, it's in the AUR already: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/opera-developer/

always did prefer to use the opera.deb file, anyway. ..
- will be nice to have a 'nix version, as getting the M$ version to work under wine, - is not much fun.

Bit off topic but still on Browsers

Otter Browser aimed to recreate the classic Opera 12.X UI

and

using new Qt5 technologies

Its available in AUR as well and ran pretty well when i ran it

But the bookmarks are still gone right? I have my bookmarks in a panel on the left which means the frequently used ones can be opened with ONE muse click. The Speed Dial cannot possibly match that as one first has to open a new tab and *then* click. So I'll stick with version 12....

Thanks for the post and info.

Importing FF bookmarks (html file) is primitive and user hostile.
No sidebar for bookmarks, downloads, etc
No ability to get rid of 'favicons'.
No thanks.
