[Chat] Still keep a Windows? Speak out your reason
I still keep windows as my must have OS, besides I have paid for it, here are some more reasons:
1.in my country , barely bank support non-IE browsers for users to access;
2.I have a ipod in my hand, and I have to use iTunes.
Then what is yours? (include running a vbox or dual-boot)

Re: [Chat] Still need a Windows? Speak out your reason
Actually I am now linux free
Between iTunes, my VPN connections and general linux issues I had to dump linux mint.
Didn't want to but I need my pc's to just work with no hassles. Don't get me wrong I liked mint, it just wasn't there yet. At least for me...

At work I need Windows for QuickBooks (not Quicken).
At home...I don't think I need Windows for anything. Oh wait! MagicJack. I keep a Windows box running for my MagicJack phone service.

No.
Last Win I used was XP, but quite a few years ago I learned I can do everything I want on Linux. I don't even keep my data on a 'Windows compatible' filesystem - all my partitions are JFS.
Still have to use Win at work though.

Re: [Chat] Still keep a Windows? Speak out your reason
I don't use anymore Windows for personal reasons since 2009. I had to keep it until the end of my studies because we where using specific software and then I erased it from my HD. Now I have only Linux Mint.
This said, I'm using Windows every day at work. I don't have the choice here...
I don't understand people saying "I need Windows because I have an Iphone". Could you please be more specific? I was able to mount Iphone under LMDE in the past and access the data...

Re: [Chat] Still keep a Windows? Speak out your reason
You seem to have the right balance
--if you need a windows OS for a specific reason, no need to abandon it simply because you also use Linux
--applications work well within a VM, as you might expect
--if you need a windows OS for a specific reason, no need to abandon it simply because you also use Linux
- They can work well together quite easily
--and even run side-by-side if you wished via a WUBI install for Linux OS.

I need Windows for my Garmin GPS tools, and wine is no longer an option, it really mess up your system.

DItto (printer and scanner are both Canon) Fortunately I seldom need to use the scanner and haven't booted Windows in well over a month.Pierre wrote:- printer works on Mint, but the scanner doesn't
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they ain't.

Re: [Chat] Still keep a Windows? Speak out your reason
I still keep XP together with a bunch of Windows-only apps in a VM for those rare just in case occasions when I have to retrieve a bunch of legacy DTP files for conversion to their OSS counterparts. Other than that, I'm quite comfortable with my Linux workflow.

I'm running Linux Mint exclusively
However, I'm looking into helping a friend move over to Linux and, as he relies on his Garmin sat-nav being up to date, we'll need to keep a Windows on his machine.... A whole OS just to update 1 device

I am a PC gamer. It's more economical to shell out 600 dollars every few years than it is to buy the best game console. Windows 7 is still on my hard drive in my desktop for that reason. Mint is also there, but on a separate drive. Only my laptop is Windows free. I run Mint on that.
