Note that this PPA pulls in the complete Cinnamon desktop, even for separate components. Those that only want Nemo 2.2 can look here:

Is this still available? I've copy/pasted the link in Terminal and get a "not found."

I've installed Ubuntu 14.04 because Mint Cinnamon would not install on my HP Envy-TS-17 laptop. Apparently some video problems that are known but no answer yet.

Make sure you do this first:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-nightly
sudo apt-get update
Without the repo and then updating, you'll not be able to "find" it :mrgreen:

Hi,

Is the Cinnamon 2.2 is stable now in Ubuntu 14.04? We are talking here about the nightly build.

Stable: https://launchpad.net/~gwendal-lebihan- ... mon-stable
Nightly: https://launchpad.net/~gwendal-lebihan- ... on-nightly

As those show, Cinnamon 2.2 is only available in Nightly builds on Trusty Tahr 14.04. Stable Cinnamon (2.0) is not on 14.04, but only on 13.10/13.04/12.10/12.04 :mrgreen:

No builds for ARM yet?
Because I can't find the packages on my Cubox-i using these instructions.

You can build it from source. Not that hard.

I've been trying for a few days now but I get stuck on dependencies for muffin.
I'm new to this so I'm probably doing something wrong...

Ah, wait... I see the wiki (https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/wiki) hasn't been updated on how to build Cinnamon for some time. Might be the building steps noted there are no longer sufficient (or are you following instructions from somewhere else?). I might then have spoken to soon, apologies.

If you are comfortable compiling software and figuring stuff out, you could take a peak at the Arch Linux build scripts for Muffin. It does need some work to translate that to something you can use on Debian base (like Ubuntu and Linux Mint). Package is here: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm ... 64/muffin/. Click on Source Files under Package Actions on the right, and view the PKGBUILD file.

Yeah that's the guide I was following. The steps worked fine but the repos listed doesn't have all the needed packages for trusty/armhf, neither does the PPA.
I gave it some more time finding dependencies and after having to compile some of them from source I finally succeeded with compiling cinnamon.

Now on to the next challenge, making it run properly on my system :)

Is there any word when 2.2 will be available stable repo? Sorry if this question has been asked already.

Edit: Has it already been released? If so, I have been running Cinnamon 2.2 from the nightly. Do I need to remove the nightly version of 2.2 before installing it from the stable PPA and removing the nightly PPA/ Thanks!

It won't; the stable PPA has been dropped. See glebihan's comments in this topic: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=167289.

Thanks so much. I don't agree with his decision, but that means nothing. Too bad. :cry:

Nice guide thank you.

Im having a problem with the icon text color on the desktop though...

I tried with changes applied to /usr/share/themes/ambiance/gtk-3.0/gtk-main.css AND /usr/share/themes/ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/nautilus.css
Neither work for me.

I have have Cinnamon 2.2 installed over Ubuntu 14.04

The Cinnamon theme selector doesn't see the Ambiance theme I put in ~/.themes so I tried modifying it straight in /usr/share/themes but that doesn't work either (even after reboots... done plenty of that)

So I installed gtk tweak which did see the new themes in ~/.themes but even changing to the new theme doesnt resolve the font color (even after reboot).

Only thing that was able to change the font color was turning on "dark theme" in gtk tweak but I dont like using a dark theme.

Does anyone have an idea why this isnt working for me? I also noticed that other fonts are of the wrong color.

If you open the Ubuntu software center and select/highlight a package, the description text is white over white, which isn't very practical.

Fred.

Ok nevermind my last posts... didnt see the the warning about my post needing to be approved by a moderator.

Now turns out I fixed my problem... Seems my interface was using the Adwaita theme by default and not Ambiance.

Dont know if thats normal or not, I assumed it was supposed to be on ambiance by default.

So I modified the Adwaita theme and everything is good now.

For the Ubuntu Software center unreadable item description problem edit /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/css/softwarecenter.css

and near the end modify the gtktreeview:selected background color settings as follow (or any other color you like):

GtkTreeView:selected {
background-color: #777777;
}

Zorba, what theme/settings are you using to get the menu bar in the pic you posted? http://i.imgur.com/XnmaXaZ.png

You later said it was blackelegance, but mine looks super blocky http://imgur.com/wjaZjNP . How do you get the rounded edges? Thanks
