My Linux laptop is 3,5 years old. And has an Intel HD 3000 build into the CPU. Which is an i3 running at 2,1 GHz. It runs Mint 17.1 with Cinnamon flawlessly with the default Intel drivers.
Hooked up my full hd screen to it through the HDMI connection and it worked right away. Just don't expect to do heavy 3d gaming with them :) But otherwise they are solid choices which can play full HD content as well :)
