64 Gb Micro Sdcard wont mount

Hi - I've got 3 m/cs running Mint 15/16 and none of them will mount my shiny new 64Gb card? (32Gb fine)

Hello, frog22.

On Mint 16, open the logfile /var/log/syslog e.g. by using Log Viewer from the Mint Menu.
Next insert the new 64GB micro sdcard.
The file syslog should start logging entries mentioning "usb" and "sd" immediately.
You might like to post those lines here for inspection.

P.S.: Below is what syslog logs here when my USB pendrive is inserted. Only to give you an idea which kind of entries to look for. The pendrive will be mounted corrrectly. No errors.

Hi Karl, many thanks for the suggestion. Apologies for the late response - life sometimes intrudes on my hobbies - I put the blank card into my new phone (Huawie P7) and it just said "Preparing card" (presumably formatting it) and now all M/cs read it... I have no idea why none of them let me format the card. I'm ordering a second card and will see if the problem is the same - if it is I will obtain a log and you'll see it here - once again many thanks,

It's also possible that your SD card reader can't handle the newer higher-capacity cards because it can only read SDHC format. The highest capacity regular SDHC format goes is 32GB. Larger SD cards use the SDXC format, which older SD card readers can't access.

Fuse is installed by default on Mint, you just need to install the following packages:
exfat-fuse
exfat-utils

I succesfully used a SDXC 64GB card, new, and after being formated on a Canon video recorder.

However, if it still fails, the reader may be the reason, and you may have to use an external sdcard reader.
With SD card technology, the controler is included in the device (which can explain why some smartphone are limited to 32GB microsd card).
Contrary to Compact Flash, on which the card includes the controler and the memory, which can explains why a Canon 400D DLSR can use HUGE memory cards

Some smartphones are getting 64GB support to microsd cards, through updates (BB Q10 e.g.), when exfat support is added.

Exfat rules (even if M$ is behind this technology) as it is r/w support on both windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
NTFS was read-only only on MacOSX.

Yup, that's my problem. My SDHC card works on newer Linux machines but not on my old laptop. The card reader is just too old.

Nice. you just solved my months old problem. SD card worked on a Mac. but not on my old T60. Now... if I can just get it to read on my wifi router's usb slot.

I'm using a 128gb card on my t410 thinkpad. As long as its formatted to fat32 it works ok.

I was just checking out SD cards to get on the web. Than I though what is the limit with my IBM T500 so I searched and found this post which answered my question.
