I can not reproduce this problem.
When I click Fullscreen from the menu the panel disappears instantly.
When I click Maximize the panel is still at the bottom.
If you need to you can have the panel Autohide.

I use the standard Gnome Mint and VirtualBox while waiting for the KDE fixed version.

To hide all bars etc that show from the Host system, just Ctrl + F while running the Mint Guest window - Ctrl being the master key by default unless you have changed it.

Is this what you are looking for?

Hi Mintyred!

I had the same problem with xfce and gentoo linux. Every time I used virtualbox, I had to autohide the panel. But when I installed compiz-fusion the problem disappeared, so now I don't have to autohide. I now thats not a really good solution, but it helped me.
