LM 17.2 Xfce install - Encrypted - Blind log in

Post by 12 Monkeys »

Hi!

I had to re install 17.2 Xfce 64bit . I have encrypted the disk using the option in the installation
setup. (No xtra encryption for home folder)
When I reboot or do a start up I get a blank/black screen. No encrypt log in window at all..
If I wait for a minute or two I can do this:
If I just type my encryption password without seeing anything on the screen,
in other words, blind, everything starts up and I get the personal log in window for the user.
Also, once logged in, everything is playing along just fine.

I have read the release notes.
I have reinstalled my drivers. My card is AMD HD 7970M (Linux steam games works perfect btw..)
I would like to skip having to make a new install :)
Any help guys?

Regards
Mikale

Thx ByeByeXP for the input.
As long as the blind pwd log in works I'm happy.
No need to to have a work-a-around.

What I would like is a log in window for encrypted , no more, no less.

and... Suddenly I got what I wanted. But just for that single session.
Next two boots, back to being blind :?

I had the same problem when I upgraded from 17.1 to 17.2.

Didn't get the graphic box for the encrypted disc password working again, but instead I commented out the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
in the /etc/default/grub file.
then ran update-grub

Now get text boot up screen, but I do get a visible prompt for the password for the encrypted partitions

Thx Wolf. I am now kinda used to it.

I also had a unforeseen funny thing happen.
I had a friend over, watching Premiere League soccer.
We had a disagreement over one of the players history.
He forgot his phone back home so...
He walks over to the laptop, wanting to google it.
He fires it up and just get nothing... Just a black screen.
When I walk over and blindly punch in my password he
starts laughing. For him, as a ordinary windows user
this is some bad Linux magic :D :D
