Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
Not an issue here with Mint XFCE 17.3 (installed two weeks ago).
Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
Check to make sure the folder is correct and reachable - as specified in Firefox > Preferences > General tab.
Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
I have a very similar issue. I think (on my machine, at least) it has to do with the fact that I installed LM Cinnamon first, and then installed XFCE later. I was trying to download and open a file while logged into my XFCE desktop, and it froze three times in a row when I hit the folder icon to open the container folder. When I switched back to my cinnamon desktop, it worked perfectly. I haven't had time to dig into the problem further than that, however.
Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
This seems something specific with your FF config.
Try this, go to settings for users/groups and create a new user. Open FF and download a file and see if you still have difficulties.
If not go back to your normal username and open /home and show hidden files.
Find your .mozilla folder and temporarily rename it to .mozilla.old
When you reopen Firefox it creates a new .mozilla folder.
If no joy you can reverse above instructions.
Firefox default downloads go into /home/username/Downloads

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
I tried to create a new user and downloaded a file in FF while logged in as my new user. Same result. Downloaded the file, but when I click on the little folder icon, the machine freezes and I have to turn it off and boot it back up. If I go into the terminal and browse to the user's download folder, the file is there, so it downloaded properly, I just can't click on the "open folder" icon.
Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
I had that problem awhile back in my 17.2 Cinnamon (32bit). I'm not experiencing that now.
I also considered whether Firefox had something to do with it or not.
I guess this is one of those hit-or-miss bugs if it still exists.

Just out of curiosity, was cinnamon your only desktop? I installed FF while logged into Cinnamon, and then later installed XFCE. FF works fine when logged into Cinnamon, but has this issue when I log into XFCE.

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
choic---you did good.
Maybe a permissions thing
So try pointing your download to a different location.
Create a new folder in your /home named downloadtemp.
open firefox/preferences and in the General tab change the download location to /home/downloadtemp.
Try a new download.

Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
Same result once I change the FF download folder. I created a temp directory in my HOME directory and changed FF to use that for downloads. downloaded a file and confirmed it was there via command line. When I click the FF "open folder" icon, the machine froze.
Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
so what is the download link that you are trying to save?
It is strange that you have created a new user as well as a new .mozilla profile and this problem
persists.

Ealier today I was trying to download the PaleMoon installer. That was when I first encountered the issue and started searching the forum to see if others had the issue.
Once you started suggesting things, I was using the Arduino IDE as my test download.

Both files had the same issue when I clicked the open folder icon in FF after a successful download.

Yes. I'm just a timid power user when it comes to playing around DEs.cholq wrote:sphyrth--Just out of curiosity, was cinnamon your only desktop?
Re: Try this: firefox: downloads: open containing folder
I'm starting to think that this is just a Firefox issue.
I installed PaleMoon, which is based off of the same Mozilla source code as Firefox. I tried using PaleMoon to download files in both Cinnamon and XFCE, using the same download folder that I originally was using in Firefox. It didn't experience any issues in either DE. The "All Downloads" window that has the folder icon looks exactly like the Firefox version of that window, so you could visibly see they shared the same source code.
So, at this point, I'm going to stop putting my time into this and I'm chalking it up to a Firefox bug.
