There is no way I can shutdown or restart or just logout by clicking on the corresponding whisker button. This is a fresh released 17.2 installation. What happens, however, the system slows down substantially after hitting the logout button. Any idea how to fix it?

Thanks for the hint. This is no XFCE issue. It's Linux Mint XFCE 17.2 issue. Because: up to 17.1 I had no problems whatsoever with the logout button.
