Autologin stopped working

Post by kokosnakokos »

Hi I don't know why, but autologin on startup in my Mint Rebecca stopped working. My settings in /etc/mdm/mdm.conf are following:

Code: Select all

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=linuxtraktor
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=linuxtraktor
TimedLoginDelay=10
Are there any other settings in Mint which I'm missing or what could be wrong?

Have you tried turning normal login functionality on in the settings, shutting down, booting, logging in, putting it back in Gomer mode, and shutting it back down? Perhaps your settings just got "confused" (somehow) and a quick switch away-and-back (with a shutdown/boot in between, to make sure) will return things to the level of functionality that you desire.

Well, if I open system -> login window -> automatic login, there are blank check boxes for automatic login and enable timeout login. Even if I check both boxes and select user which should be logged in and then exit settings window and then reopen settings for automatic login there are always these two check boxes unchecked. That could be the trouble but I don't know how to reset the settings. Maybe delete mdm.conf file? But I don't know if that would be safe.

Could be a permission problem or something related.

Look at menu -> settings -> session and startup -> general

and be sure to save your logout session.

If that fails, then on the terminal do

ls -l /etc/mdm

and look at the permission for mdm.conf .

Hi,
I had sessions turned off, but turning them on does not help.

Here's what I've got from teminal:

Code: Select all

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 led 16 20:43 Init
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10842 čen 19  2014 locale.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  2929 kvě 25 19:03 mdm.conf
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 led 16 20:43 modules
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 led 16 20:43 PostLogin
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 led 16 20:43 PostSession
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 led 16 20:43 PreSession
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root  4096 led 16 20:43 SuperInit
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  4188 čen 19  2014 XKeepsCrashing
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  6264 čen 19  2014 Xsession
It does not tell me much :(

I agree. I'm stumped too. Maybe a LM developer can help you. Saving sessions should had worked, IMHO.
