My system doesn't recognize monitor [SOLVED]

Post by ssadfaf »

I have Linux Mint 17.1 xfce 32bit recently installed. Lets call this PC PC1.
The display had normal and adjustable settings, it's name was shown correctly.
The problem occurred when once I started system and monitor's POWER cable unfortunately was unplugged. I plugged it back but system see only default monitor with some standard resolutions and no options for refresh rate, etc.

I have nearby another PC (we'll call it PC2) with similar OS LM 17.1 xfce 64bit, so I changed monitors. PC2 recognized monitor correctly, but the PC1 did not recognized new monitor again. So, the monitor is not broken.

Also, in Settings Editor I found two monitors: 'default' and 'VGA-1'. Tried to change some options there with no effect. But OS somehow considers itself as dual monitors. I have two video-cards - onchip and PCI, but onchip is turned off in BIOS.

What should I do?
Plz help!

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it fullscreen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
if you type: the letter F is a capital letter

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Try this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nvidia-173 nvidia-settings
Then reboot. Does that help?

Pjotr,
OS didn't recognize monitor (it is still 'default') BUT it allowed me to change resolution and refresh rate.
It worked!
Thank You very much!
