Hi
LM17 XFCE (pretty much default install)
I have a problem where the screensaver "kinda" starts randomly.
That is... I will be actively using the machine (mouse keyboard) and the screen goes all funny with a combination of mostly black area and some artifacts from the screen saver (almost like the screensaver tried to fire up). As I then move the mouse around, it will repaint blocks of the original screen. To completely clear-up the entire screen back to normal, I have to do a clear screen (that green box on the task bar) and hit it again to get my windows back.
I've installed this OS on a couple of completely different machines and it does the same thing.
I'm talking about the screensaver that does different graphical displays (towers of hanoi, mazes, etc).
It happens with a frequency of approx once per hour of use.
Anybody else experiencing this? Any solutions?
Thanks

Have you tried disabling screensaver? Save you some headaches
Menu -. Settings -> Screensaver
There is command to turn screensaver on if you want it,
xscreensaver
Study
man xscreensaver

Kinda..Have you tried disabling screensaver? Save you some headaches
As an experiment, I changed the settings to "blank screen only". Oddly, I kept getting the same phenomenon with artifacts from those animated screensavers (even though the screensaver was set to blank screen only).
So, for the last day, I have set the screensaver to 'disable' as you suggested (the power options will do the screen blanking anyway). So I haven't seen the problem yet with the screensaver set to disabled.
It's not a huge deal to not have the animated screensavers, but I'm amazed nobody else is experiencing this. If it is a simple fix, I would like to know it.
Re: Screensaver randomly fires - LM17 XFCE
I get the same behaviour but it seems to be related to LibreOffice and nothing else. I'm running Mint 17.1 XFCE 64 bit and I've noticed that after a while LibreOffice (4.2.8.2) causes the screen to go completely black (with an image of xscreensaver in the centre). The screen gets refreshed under the mouse cursor and so you can find the application in the panel and close it (at which point the screen returns to normal). It works with Calc and Writer and occurs if you move windows to one side a couple of times, resize a window, and perhaps switch a workspace. One or more of these actions a couple of times causes the bug every time. The error occurs even with screensaver disabled.

David
