How to add higher resolution?

Post by Znap! »

Howdy,

I recently installed 17.1 XFCE on my old desktop. Everything works fine ootb except for my screen resolution. My Samsung 2333 Monitor has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080, but the highest possible setting in Mint is 1024 x 768. Does anyone recognize this issue or have a possible solution?

Code: Select all

Graphics: Card: Intel 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller bus-ID: 00:02.0
           X.Org: 1.15.1 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) Resolution: 1024x768@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel G33 x86/MMX/SSE2 GLX Version: 1.4 Mesa 10.1.3 Direct Rendering: Yes
Output of xrandr

Looks like you posted the same output twice instead of the xrandr output, but don't worry about that.

First thing to be aware of is that if your monitor is connected through some kind of adaptor or switch, that may be causing the mis-read of available resolutions. If this applies to you, try plugging monitor directly into computer instead and that will probably fix the problem.

If that is not the situation, then you'll need to manually add the correct resolution. Here are some references for doing that:
