[Solved] Update Manager vs. apt-get upgrade

Post by obaino »

What is the difference between Update Manager and apt-get update?
when I check for updates via Update Manager I get no updates, while using sudo apt-get update / upgrade there are several updates to be installed.
I also have checked the option to "include updates which require the installation of new packages or the removal of installed packages"

Apt-get upgrades everything available.

Update manager only displays updates for levels that you have selected as visible and will only display the 'updates available' panel icon when there are available updates for levels you have selected as safe. In your screenshot I can see that you have level 4 and 5 updates set as neither safe or visible.. these are the extra packages you get using apt-get.

Hope this helps.
