Hi,
I just installed 17.1 Xfce (32-bit) and I gave a try to Compiz, unfortunately that was not a good idea as I got a white screen and no commands were working.
Rebooting got met back to the white screen and the only command was working is ctr+alt+F1, I tried the remove option but did not fix the problem.
I had to re-install the system from scratch, what a wast of time
I am not sure why it messed up my computer, whether it is a bug or not, but I will certainly avoid to try Compiz again.
Cheers
Alex

Re: Compiz white screen
Your graphics chip just might not be up to the demands of compiz. I like and use the Xfce compositor (Window Manager Tweaks in the menu). If it happens again with compiz, the following terminal command will bring back the Xfce windows manager.
