Hello,
I am running xfce edition. After upgrading to 17.1, I was curious to try compiz.
I selected compiz from the settings and log off. Now when I try to log on, desktop does not appear at all. Something is broken.
How am I able to select the old window manager back? Via recovery menu I am able to go to root shell prompt. But what to do after that?
Mikko

I have XFCE also and compiz is not working properly for me either--if you can open terminal by right clicking on the desktop enter in the terminal
That should get back to the XFCE windows manager.
Code: Select all
xfwm4 --replace

Yep I am able to go to shell by pressing control alt f2.
But xfwm4 --replace gives output
(xfwm4:2492): Gtk-warning **: cannot open display:
Edit: got it work again. I was running compton too which caused the problem. Removed compton in the shell and now it boots to the desktop.
