do you have workspace switcher installed on the Taskbar ?.

- that's where you would 'click' on each of those workspaces.

you 'right click' on the switcher - to get preferences - to change the number of workspaces.

Open System Settings. Click on Hot Corners. Set one of the hot corners as "show all workspaces." Close settings.

When ever the cursor goes to that corner all your workspaces will appear.

I like the panel better - leave the desktop cluster-free. To add to panel,

right-click panel (the bar at the bottom [or top if configuaration changed])
-> panel
-> add new items
-> workspace switcher
-> add

Press and hold both Ctrl + Alt then Right or Left Arrow
will scroll workspaces back and forth.

in xfce you can also use keyboard shortcuts, look in the 'window manager' settings, at the 'keyboard' tab to see what they are.
