Where are all the KDE systray icons?
Hi,
I have LinuxMint v17 64-bit XFCE on one of my computers. Any time I run a KDE application which makes use of the system tray (kget, kgpg, etc) it does not show up in the system tray and thus I have no way of accessing the window and must kill the process.
I cannot figure out what package to install to get the icons to appear. Does anyone know how to get these icons on the system tray so I can access the software? Is there a package I'm supposed to install? I have "Launch KDE Services on startup" checked in XFCE settings.
Thank you!

Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
Bump. This is true of 17.1 XFCE too (fresh install). Kget, etc do not show up in the XFCE system tray. How do I solve this problem, is Mint XFCE only partially compatible with Mint KDE programs? (Never had this problem with Slackware)
Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
Have you read and followed the instructions from the Mint 17.1 Xfce Release Notes? The section titled Issues with KDE apps?

All those packages (kdelibs-bin kdelibs5-data kdelibs5-plugins) are already installed, likely during the installation of kdenetwork, kdeedu, kdegames, etc.richyrich wrote:Have you read and followed the instructions from the Mint 17.1 Xfce Release Notes? The section titled Issues with KDE apps?

No problems running Okular.
Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
Just a guess here . . libknotify4config , read it's description in Synaptic, and decide for yourself.
Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
I don't see anything in either the libknotifyconfig4 (already installed) description nor "Configure Notifications" option for adding the program to the system tray (and why would I have to do such a thing for each KDE program?)richyrich wrote:Just a guess here . . libknotify4config , read it's description in Synaptic, and decide for yourself.
Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
Installing xfce4-goodies and kdepim and adding an Indicator Plugin in addition to the normal XFCE systray brought most of the icons back. As for the KDE icons, kget and kgpg are still missing, klipper shows an icon but no choices other than a separator bar when clicking on it. Also, there is a single "File->Close" in the Indicator Plugin systray when Konsole is opened (the program itself shows the whole menu normally).
I never had these probs using XFCE under other distros. Very strange.

Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
Why are you not running KDE? You seem to need/want all KDE apps, why go through all the headaches of mixing/corrupting DE's . . and if other distros work better for you ?
Re: Where are all the KDE systray icons?
I always enjoyed using KDE, and still do on desktops, but in this case I'm using a laptop where I don't want to waste battery on KDE's stunning graphics.richyrich wrote:Why are you not running KDE? Just an update, I don't remember how I solved this, but it was solved by removing some package with "indicator" in the name.
