Hello,
Upgraded a desktop to Mint 17 XFCE and the desktop icons, panel icons, Firefox tabs, Thunar icons do not show.
If I roll my cursor over them, they show up temporarily, but then go back to a dull grey or not there at all.
After installation, I checked "Driver Manager" thinking maybe it was my graphics card, but the result was: "No proprietary drivers are in use." ,
I also ran every possibly update and the problem persists.
This is visually unacceptable, I've never witnessed this issue before, so would be grateful for any and all help solving this.
THANK YOU!
Clinton

Does this work when booting with the min17 livecd ?
If yes , check this post : http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=171755

No, the situation persists when using LiveDVD media.

Did you give it time to look for drivers? Your lspci output seems to indicate that you have an Nvidia graphics card. The driver manager should find a driver for it if you give it a minute or two to look for it.SunWorks wrote:After installation, I checked "Driver Manager" thinking maybe it was my graphics card, but the result was: "No proprietary drivers are in use."
Run driver manager again to see if it finds an Nvidia driver. If still having problems, post back with output from following terminal command:
Code: Select all
inxi -Fxz
Re: XFCE 17: Desktop - application icons, tabs, etc. don't s
Apparently the half-height AGP card in this machine needs the nvidia-96 driver, which is no longer supported in Mint 17.
It's an nVidia P-117 / MX-440 card.
I know this card is old, low-performance, etc... but it physically works except for no software support.
I'd like to know how it going to a landfill is a good thing.
Is it that difficult to include support for such a card in new versions of an OS?
