Battery monitor profiles not activating

Post by Scarfy »

I'm not sure what's caused it, but my battery monitor profiles are no longer reacting to changes in the battery level.

When I plug in the AC, the On AC Power profile is used as expected. However, when it's not, only the On Battery profile is used. I have the Low Battery level set to 20%, however the laptop battery can reach and fall past this, and neither is a notification seen, nor are things like the screen brightness changed. I used to also see a notification when the battery was fully charged, but this no longer happens, either.

I've tried deleting the power rc settings in ~/.kde/share/config:

Code: Select all

rm -f ~/.kde/share/config/*power*
But that has made no difference. Weirdly, there is a powerdevilrc file, which is zero bytes.

Anyone experienced this, and/or know of a fix..?

This may be unrelated, but Googling has uncovered these:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=769155

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338406

However, none of the solutions have worked for me. I even deleted my entire .kde folder and tried again from scratch. It made no difference, sadly.

Similar trouble here. LM 17.2 KDE.

No notifications at all. That's awful...
Moreover, during discharging (only battery) it looks like this..

The icon on the panel is wrong as well as "Time to Full" is totally confounding.

I've been trying to fix this for many hours now by writing various scripts, but all to no avail. This is a serious issue for me. If anybody finds out how to deal with it, please share it.

Using third party software solves the problem though.

I use GKrellM, it displays current battery remaining power in percentages and has an option to display alerts and issue commands. For example I set it to play a sound and display an alert when my battery is at 15% and to put laptop to sleep mode when the battery is at 3%. It's very convenient and (unlike KDE's crap) it works great.
