Theme: Howto install?

Post by Transistorfips »

Hi,
I have LinuxMint 17.1 32-bit witk KDE on this machine. As a friend of retro-style equipment I want to install some Sun-Solaris-like theme as it can be found here:
https://opendesktop.org/content/show.ph ... b27ec48fc5
Unfortunately I don't have the slightest clue of this GTK stuff. So How to install this? Is it possible on KDE at all?

Oh, and by the way, why is that that I always have to log in again after only 3 minutes while editing a topic?

Extract the archive and move the directory "CDE" to either /usr/share/themes (using sudo/root) or to ~/.themes/ (if you don't have root/sudo access).
To apply that theme, go to System Settings > Application Appearance > GTK and choose it as the GTK2 theme.

Be aware that this theme will not apply to KDE/Qt applications nor to GTK3 applications!

Hi,
I did as you wrote. But It only works "half". The Window buttons at the title bar at upper right corner haven't been updated. I tested a few window decorations (B II, Plastik, Oxygen, Tenuto-Light). Again, no updating. I only see the outer window frame seems to be changed.

So is this the reason for that? Is there some sort of "overwriting" of GTK2 icons?

Re: Theme: Howto install?[solved]

For the next guy with a similar prob:

After installing deKorator
sudo apt-get install kwin-style-dekorator
from
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=31447
it was easy to do:
system -> workspace appearance -> window decorations
deKorator 0-5-1 comes up. So installing MWM / CDE / MOTIF Window Decorations 1.1 worked a charm.

Solaris resurrected, case solved.

To make KDE applications use GTK themes and colours, you need to deselect the option "apply colors to non-KDE apps..." under Colors tab
Or install qt4config and run then set theme style to GTK
