Mint KDE on Toshiba Satellite S55t-A5238

Post by Dngrsone »

Okay, I installed MInt 64-bit Cinnamon on the aforementioned Toshiba Satellite.

I then installed KDE-full via terminal.

When I am in Plasma, the resolution of the display is lower than in Cinnamon, and I cannot seem to find any settings for changing this.

Also, the Fn+Function keys do not work, though they work fine in Cinnamon.

Is this because I am trying to run two different DE from the same Mint installation, or is this something special about KDE?

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Settings -> System Settings -> Display and Monitor
to change screen res.
Not sure if you have a conflict causing this problem.

Not there. I can play with the screensaver and gamma, and that's it.

I'm beginning to think I will have to abandon this exercise and just install KDE Mint alongside Mint Cinnamon.

Good thing I have a Terabyte of hard drive storage.

Okay, it looks like I have sorted things out a little.

I have my mute button and volume button functions, courtesy of a sound management widget on my task bar. With that installed, those particular function keys work now.

I also found and installed brightscreen, which allowed me to use my brightness buttons.

Additionally, I found that kdesudo was not installed, which prevented the update manager from working correctly.

Horizontal scrolling can be enabled simply by entering the following in a terminal:

Code: Select all

synclient HorizEdgeScroll=1

Installed Mint 17 desktop 64-bit KDE, and had no problems with setup at all. Multimedia keys, wifi, and horiontal scrolling worked out of the box (well, had to turn horizontal scrolling on in settings).

I had to install Resolution Changer (or something like this, the name could be a bit different) to change resolution in KDE without restarting the GE, try to find something like it.
