mint 7 on a netbook

Post by linuxlearner20 »

I have a samsung NP-N130 netbook that I have installed linux mint 7 XFCE on......everything works fine as far as i can tell but the wireless is not working....I open the Wicd manager it shows that I have no wireless networks available, but i do have a wireless network, and all of my other computers connect to it just fine.....i have read on many sites that the wireless feature seems to be a big problem with linux on netbooks so I know i'm not the only one having this problem, is there anyone else who has had this problem and know how to fix it? any help would be greatly appreciated :)

From Ubuntu forums at http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/showt ... ?p=8272357
Do you have the realtek wireless NIC? If so I got it working by installing ndisgtk,(gui for ndiswrapper). Make sure you use the driver found at the Samsung website for the nic, not the one from realtek.

[...]

Have a look here for more ndiswrapper information:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...er/Ndiswrapper

The n130 has a Realtek 8192e wireless nic and I think the drivers were rejected from inclusion in the kernel. I found ndiswrapper to be unstable when I was testing the alpha build of karmic. It might be better now though.
Hope that helps. If you need any more specific directions, I can try to chip in, although I'm off to bed for now!

Sorry, link was broken in my other post.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... diswrapper

That should help explain how to use NDISwrapper, which allows you to use Windows wireless drivers on Linux. You be most concerned with sections 3.4 and 3.5, since those detail how to install and load Windows Drivers, although obviously you want to make sure you follow the first few steps to install the program itself! If you need any help after you've ready that documentation I'll try to give a hand! :)
