unable to get wifi working

Post by inamist »

Hi everyone,

A couple of months ago I installed Rafaela on my laptop and from the beginning was unable to get wifi working. Till now it was not a big issue since I use the laptop at home and ethernet works just fine... Now that Christmas is approaching, I realize that I will be on the move and have been trying to solve the problem.
Things that I have tried so far, after browsing the forum, to no avail:
 • /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf
 •
options fwlps=0
After that, wifi seemed to connect, and the wireless network icon on the panel said I was connected, but browsers couldn't open any pages, saying that I had no connection :( I tried other combinations suggested in the forum with no better luck, the last one being:
options rtl8723be ips=N fwlps=N #options rtl8723be msi=1
• ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi
 •
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install rtlwifi-new-dkms
Now wifi tries and fails to connect several times, before giving up.
Wifi works fine on the same computer on windows.

Here is the output of mintWifi.py:

Can you remove a panel on the bottom of the laptop to look at the wireless card? There was just a post on Ubuntuforums that said his rtl8723be card only had one antenna wire but two connectors on the card and switching the antenna wire from one to the other made it work
