You might need to

Code: Select all

echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/wifi.conf
and reboot

thanks for getting back.
i tried that and got

"options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8"

reboot and tried wicd to connect- still no go - "validating" then stops with "bad password"
i checked that, all ok. i see others have similar problem.

i see that in wicd properties the password is set under
WEP(Hex[0-9/A-F])

is that relevant

many thanks

Did you disable the Linux Mint Network Manager?
<bill>

Re: no wifi. but other devices work

not intentionally, but i have been trying for a while to get wifi (sorry),
looked in software manager (searched "network manager") and see that;
wicd
wicd-gtk
python-wicd
wicd-daemon
are all installed, none others. but i realise installed does not necessarily mean enabled. how do i check please.
thanks for your patience

PS i tried

cat -s /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state

and got

NetworkingEnabled=true
WirelessEnabled=true
WWANEnabled=true
WimaxEnabled=true

Any help to you?

ALL SOLVED!

having done all above, I then put the password in WPA, and not WEP and it worked. dont understand why but it did (others have had same thing)

Great that you got it solved as I was led to believe that wicd worked with WEP better than the standard network manager

Good! WEP sucks anyway; WPA is much better. WPA2 is optimal: can you set that as well?
