Need help with Installing Wireless USB adapter

Post by hoangnguyen1 »

Hello Mint community. Happen to try the 17.2Mint Cinnamon out but however I couldn't get the

WNDA3100v2 NETGEAR adapter to work.

I happen to have the CD-Driver for it so I installed WINE to help with the set-up process but it seem like the .exe wouldn't load either :( .

Here is what I got after command :

sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py

output is:
g@Key ~ $ sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py

Forget Wine / ndiswrapper, it's an emergency measure at best..... and never a very good one.

It's this chipset: Broadcom BCM4323.

So try this:
- establish internet connection by other means, for example by wire (ethernet cable);
- from the Menu, launch Driver Manager. Does it offer you a driver? If so, install it and reboot.

Hmmm..... I've done some research, and it appears that you have a problematic chipset there. It seems that only with ndiswrapper people have succeeded in getting it to work. Ndiswrapper is an emergency measure. Not good.

I advise to buy a cheap USB dongle that works out of the box in Linux Mint 17.x, like this one:

Thank you for the suggestion, I tried the ndiswrapper route but this what it came up with

Code: Select all

hoang@Key ~ $ ndiswrapper -l
autorun : invalid driver!

If you absolutely want to use this USB dongle, read http://askubuntu.com/questions/568056/u ... ar-adapter

I wouldn't expect great results and the wifi gurus at ubuntuforums.org seem to have given up on trying to troubleshoot any issues with wifi that needs ndiswrapper
