WiFi keeps disconnecting all the time - Cinnamon 17.2

Post by moho70 »

Good morning all
I have the problem that the WiFi is disconnecting all the time. I updated to 17.2, but it started, when I start to use another Wireless Modem (I'm renting the apartment). I (a friend) updated the driver for the WiFi card, the kernel and fixed the BT as well. But the problem with the connection continued...I'm getting crazy, no Skype, videos etc.
I installed Mint almost 1 year ago, and I love it, but this issue is annoying me very much.

ASUS X750LN, the card is a Broadcom
I paste the result of the command:

Robert-X750LN ~ $ sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py

I think it is this driver:

bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb ?

your card works better with the other broadcom driver - b43 do the following in a terminal
connect to a LAN by cable first. (ethernet)

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source
then this

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
When that is finished reboot. if wifi does not work you may have to blacklist the wl driver.

No lets back up

purge firmware b43 and reinstall bcmwl driver.
Then go to this page and install newer kernel.

seems there was a bug that affected some wifi card up until 3.18 kernel.
I upgrade to the 4.1.2 kernel which is the latest stable kernel without problems.
here is how:
http://mintguide.org/system/456-install ... -mint.html
Others with you card have report that it solved the problem of drop out. I don't have any machine with that card at the moment so can't check it out for my self.
good luck
