WiFi keeps disconnecting in 17.2 Cinnamon fresh install

Post by taninamdar »

Although this seems a common problem for Linux Mint 17.*, I have tried a couple of solutions posted in this forum, and none of them has worked for me so far.

The problem is probably well-known, the WiFi connection is very unstable, it gets disconnected after a short time. The connection is stable when I connect my laptop to the router using ethernet, or when I connect my laptop by WiFi in windows.

I will post outputs of any commands that you ask me to.

Thanks!

Try to disable power save wireless module options this way

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8188ee fwlps=0 ips=0" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8188ee.conf
sudo update-initramfs -u
Reboot to complete.

I have been having the same issue. WiFi is set to power save disabled. Here is the results of running inxi -Fxz:

I ran the code to make sure the power save was disabled. Here are the results:

~ $ echo "options rtl8188ee fwlps=0 ips=0" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8188ee.conf
options rtl8188ee fwlps=0 ips=0

~ $ sudo update-initramfs -u

I have also removed the internal WiFi card and used a USB WiFi with the same issue.

Thanks in advance.

Card-2: Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter driver: rtl8192ce
@dmccotter, your card use rtl8192ce driver, to disable wireless power save use

Code: Select all

echo "options rtl8192ce fwlps=0 ips=0" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8192ce.conf
sudo update-initramfs -u
@dmccotter, you should also try to ugpgrade your kernel to 3.16 series

Code: Select all

sudo apt install linux-kernel-generic
Reboot. Hope this helps.

Strange since your card is supported, see http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/cat ... 0ec%3A8179
Can you post back command results

Code: Select all

rfkill list all
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net
cat /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8188ee.conf
ll /boot/initrd*

Check the wifi encryption settings on the router, choose WPA2-AES, WPA2-PSK, or WPA2 only without WEP or TKIP

There's no point because same encryption works on my laptop in windows.

Everything works in Windows, TKIP is known to cause issues in Linux

OP:
Card-2: Realtek RTL8188EE Wireless Network Adapter driver: rtl8188ee port: 5000 bus-ID: 08:00.0
I recently got one of these USB Wifi adapters, and it wouldn't work (included installation process failed, horrible instructions, etc):

Code: Select all

Card-2: Edimax EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS] driver: rtl8192cu usb-ID: 7392:7811
I'm not sure about rtl8188ee vs rtl8192cu (or why my driver is rtl8192cu for an RTL8188CUS...) but if all else fails, you might look at
http://askubuntu.com/questions/246236/c ... 2cu-driver

(Link has some slight diffs from what I used, below - USB gizmo works fine now):

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic build-essential dkms
git clone https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes.git
sudo dkms add ./rtl8192cu-fixes
sudo dkms install 8192cu/1.10
sudo depmod -a
sudo cp ./rtl8192cu-fixes/blacklist-native-rtl8192.conf /etc/modprobe.d/
