Keep Losing Wifi Connection

Post by whistle1 »

As this is my first post, let me begin by saying that I am NOT tech saavy. I have already searched throught the forums and 99% of it was WAY over my head. That being said, I will try to be as detailed as I can - given my limited knowledge.

I have an old IBM ThinkPad T43. Someone swapped out the old Windows system with a Linux. Here is my system information...

Operating System: Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon 32 Bit.
Version: 2.0.14
Linux Kernel: 3.11.0-12-generic
Processor: Intel Pentium M Processor 1.86Ghz
Memory: 1.5 GiB
Hard Drive: 56.0 GB

Most of the time, it will see the wifi and connect with no problem. I can rarely get through an internet session without losing wifi connection after a while - this time can vary - sometimes an hour, sometimes less.

When I check, it will often show the wifi signal I was just connected to and show a sufficient signal, but just won't connect. It will say "connecting". I often have to restart the computer. Sometimes that helps, but sometimes it doesn't.

I hope I have provided sufiicient information for those more tech saavy to solve these issues. When responding, please remember - I am a computer moron!

Thanks in advance.

At least two reason can cause that.
1. Wifi´s powersaving is on
2. NetworkManager simply sleeps.

Case 2. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=184265

Please upgrade to Linux Mint 17 as Mint 16 hasn't been supported for about a year so there are no software/update servers in operation
