Wireless USB Driver

Post by Bryan88 »

I have a DLink DWA-125 wireless usb that I am making a half hearted attempt to get working with Mint 13 Xfce. I have the CD that it came with, my question is should I use the driver from the CD via the "Windows wireless drivers" option or look for a more suitable one online? Thanks.

Forget the CD and its Windows drivers....

Launch a terminal. What does this terminal command give:

Code: Select all

lsusb
..... and, while you're at it, please generate an overview of your system like this:
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste both outputs in your next message.

First try this:
Enable level 4 and 5 updates and install the latest 3.2.x kernel (probably 3.2.0-87 or something). Then reboot.

Does that help?

Thanks.

Been following the "before you post here" thread, but don't know if it's a bit outdated.
Here are some results, can't understand why there is no wireless showing. Don't know what the DHCP thing is about, but it asked for my password so I entered it. Thanks.

It might be, that this particular chipset is too new for the old kernel of Linux Mint 13.

I can recommend the TP-Link TL-WN725N (version 2.0):
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN725N ... B008IFXQFU

Works only out of the box in Mint 17.x, but in Mint 13 it works fine if you do the following:

First:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install build-essential
Then download this driver package:
https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu/a ... master.zip

Then:

Code: Select all

cd Downloads && unzip ~/Downloads/rtl8188eu-master.zip

Code: Select all

cd rtl8188eu-master

Code: Select all

make

Code: Select all

sudo make install

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe 8188eu
